In addition, it is a training centre for Ghana Post Graduate College of Physicians and Surgeons and the West African College of Physicians and Surgeons.
The catchment areas has also increased and is now made up of the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern and some parts of the Central and Western regions of Ghana with a catchment population of more than 10 million. It also receives patients from neighbouring countries such as Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
With OPD attendance of 483,462 and 58,000 in-patients admissions (2008), the hospital is fully aware of the challenges posed by the ever increasing number of patients which seek its services from within and outside Ghana.
