Dr. Peter Konadu
Head of Directorate

The Accident and Emergency (A&E) directorate was carved out of the Surgery Directorate and established in 2007.

With the increasing trend in emergencies (i.e. Trauma, Surgical and Medical), coupled with the need to provide prompt quality response to these emergencies, KATH's management created the directorate to develop capacity focused on meeting emerging trends in emergencies.

The Directorate is responsible for the handling and sorting out of all emergency patients rushed to the hospital.

In furtherance to the hospital's objective to prompt response to emergency patients, an ultra modern accident and emergency centre was built and operations commenced on 4th May, 2009.

The centre therefore serves as the receiving point for all emergency patients for resuscitation and stabilisation.

Services

In line with the hospital's mandate, the A&E directorate is mandated to provide the following:

· Conducting research into common diseases and effective methods of treating them.

The directorate provides advanced clinical care through specialist outpatient consultation services, inpatient services and surgical operative care. The main scope of services provided by the Directorate is in the area of Trauma and Orthopaedics Surgery.
