HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Diagnostics Directorate is one of the Clinical Directorates of the Hospital mandated to provide various diagnostic services through the departments of Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, Pathology and Radiology.
The directorate is managed by a team made up of the following

1. CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT
Dr. F.A.Yeboah Head of Department and Mr. Osei Asibey as the Technical Head.

2. HAEMATOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Mr. Clement Opoku-Okrah Head of Department and Bernard Ato Eshun as the Technical Head.

· Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)
· Glucose 6 Phosphate Dehydrogenase test (G6PD)
3. MICROBIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Prof. E A Frimpong Head of Department and Mr. Thomas Gyampomah, the Technical Head.
The Department is subdivided into Bacteriology, Parasitology and Serology units

  • Tests available:
    the Bacteriology unit provides the following services
    Blood, Urine, Stool, CSF, Wound Swab, Pus, Aspirates, Ear Swab, Eye swab, Urethral discharges,
    HVS/ECS, Sputum for AFB, Skin scraping for fungal elements , VDRL, Pregnancy test and Semen analysis

    The Parasitology unit provides the following services

1. Urine Macroscopy (Physical examination of Urine appearance &colour) and Chemical content analysis

  • Urine Microscopy (Examination of Urinary Deposits)
  • Formol-ether concentration method for stool analysis together with wet mount examination

Among the specialist investigations carried out include:

  • Stool for Occult Blood analysis
  • Midnight Blood for Filaria worms analysis
  • Skin snip for Onchocerca analysis
  • Urine Bence jones Proteinuria analysis
  • Serology /Virology Unit providesthe following services
    HIV screening, HBsAg Test, CDy Count, HIV Viral load and Hepatitis 'C' Screening

PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Dr. Ossei Sampany Head of Department and Mr. Samuel Kachungu as the Technical Head.

RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
