Welcome Address by C.E.O
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
KATH is located in the vibrant and culturally rich city of Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region of Ghana in West Africa. In consonance with our time tested cultural heritage of hospitality, I say a big “AKWAABA”, meaning welcome in the Twi language of the people of this region.
KATH as established in 1955 was a regional hospital serving communities within the Ashanti region of Ghana. Over the years, however, this once relatively small regional hospital with less than 500 beds has grown to become a 1,200 bed tertiary medical centre and the teaching hospital of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. Its legal mandate is to provide specialist care, training of under-graduate and post graduate health professionals and conduct medical research to address emerging health problems of Ghana.
It is currently one of the leading centres for the training of medical and allied health students with multiple accreditations for both under and post graduate training of health professionals in West Africa. The Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and the West African College of Physicians (WACP) and West African College Surgeons (WACS) are but some of the few professional bodies that have accredited the Hospital as their training centres.
The catchment areas of the Hospital has also increased and is now made up of the eight out of the 10 regions of Ghana as it takes direct referrals from the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East, Upper West and some parts of the Central and Western regions of Ghana. It also receives patients from neighbouring countries such as Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
The Hospital currently provides a board range of specialist and sub-specialist services in the area of diagnostic, surgical and medical interventions resulting in the registration of 40,000 in-patients and 380,000 OPD cases a year.
The vision of the Board and Management of the Hospital is to position it as a true medical centre of excellence in the West African sub-region providing clients with safe and caring services in an environment immersed in the typical and proverbial Ghanaian hospitality.
In the pursuance of the above objective, Management wishes to assure patients and the general public that the Hospital is committed to forming strategic partnerships with individuals and organisations in the continuous drive to upgrade and improve the operational capacity of the Hospital to meeting the expectations of its clients.
In line with the above, the Board has approved the establishment of an “Endowment Fund” to lead the drive in the mobilisation of the resources needed for the provision of prompt and patient-centred services to the public. For further enquiries, recommendations and support for the above Fund and the general operations of the Hospital, do not hesitate to contact us through our email email@example.com.
Once again, thank you for passing through our site and we hope to see or hear from you soon.
